Oh well, here goes. This was my entry, pretty much on the same track as the winning one except that I had specifically taken into account the hair issue (by making the crown follow the hairline and look roughly like a stylized hairdo) and considered the synergy between it and Glacial Gloves. Didn't get any approval, though (and if you say that the drawing is rough - it's intentional, a classic chalk and charcoal technique).

Would be nice if this had armor value, just to make it ever more unique, heck while were at it, make all festival hats have an armor value based on level like heroes armor.

Nice style. Classic is always ftw. I get tired of all the over-done ones with backgrounds and scenes that take away from the design. At least you'll be able to get something close to your design this Wintersday

Except that after reading Gaile's comments I'm just a little bit afraid that ANet has turned the idea into an abomination ... something like an icy crown with furry earmuffs

Hey tmakinen, where can I see more of your art? You have a gallery somewhere? I've been haunted by your avatar before because I kept wondering if you drew it too?

I don't really know anything about that tho. Never read the books or anything because they didn't seem interesting to me. So I don't really know what a narnia crown looked like but a crown in itself is still a crown so I guess it is pretty generic as an idea. But no it wasn't inspired by Narnia.

Is it just me or are you one of the few people who actually noticed the connection to Grenth lore in the drawing? xD I <3 GW lore.

Nian - No criticism meant or implied. The game borrows lots of humor and things from other genres so I was thinking that maybe the resemblance may have caught the interest of judges or the designers. Maybe they have a theme in mind.
Lots of great designs were submitted. Kudos to all of you!

Zomg I wanted to be part of the contest, and I the first thing that came to my mind was a glowing nose on a skull head....just like the one who won. But then I thought that it was too similar to "a nightmare before xmas", and did not do it. Ffs, didn't they say that it had to be an original work? Geez -.-''

Hi Nian,
first of all, congratulations for the win. I've always found your work most admirable, especially the style and use of color.
I'm only a part time artist and not very prolific even at that. I used to have comics online 10 years ago when the web was still in its infancy but right now the only thing that I can show is some commissioned GW character art (I bet that you know the recipients) void of any artistic qualities and reflecting the stylistic preferences of the clients rather than mine.
But I'm also honest enough to admit that I still feel a bit sullen about Gaile saying that it's all about the idea, and when two people come up with essentially the same idea, it's on one hand good enough to win the entire competition and on another not good enough to even get a honorable mention (That's of course not your fault I just hope that the devs haven't bastardized the concept beyond recognition)
